An
Edged-Weapon Self-Defense System Developed by Michael D. Janich
The "Daigoro" (named for the baby in the famous "Baby Cart from Hell" Samurai film series) was a design I did at the request of custom knifemaker Mike Snody. After completing the Ronin project, Mike asked me to design a larger, full-service fighting knife. I based it on the traditional design and function of the Japanese aikuchi, but replaced the traditional wrapped handle with a finger groove pattern. This pattern offers a narrow handle for a very secure grip and incredibly fast handling. The blade is chisel ground, featuring a hollow-ground bevel on the reverse side and an unsharpened swedge. Overall length of the Daigoro is 11-3/8 inches, with a 6-inch blade. To my knowledge, Mike Snody has made only two of this knife, both in Damascus. I own one and a second is in the hands of a private collector.
