An
Edged-Weapon Self-Defense System Developed by Michael D. Janich

Black Belt magazine, the premier martial arts and self-defense magazine, has recognized Michael Janich as the 2010 Weapons Instructor of the Year. Based on votes cast by its readers, Black Belt selected Janich as one of the latest inductees to their elite Hall of Fame. Janich humbly joins the ranks of previous Hall of Fame inductees in this category, including revered Filipino masters such as Angel Cabales, Floro Vilabrille, and Dan Inosanto.
Michael Janich and Stay Safe Media are proud to announce the release of Junkyard Aikido: A Practical Guide to Joint Locks, Breaks, and Manipulations. Junkyard Aikido cuts through the myth and misinformation to make joint locking skills accessible to any martial artist or self-defense practitioner. Using the proven analytical style that defines his popular instructional method, Michael Janich leads you step by step through both the techniques and the concepts of combative joint locks. Starting with the fingers and progressing methodically through the wrists, elbows, shoulders and neck, Janich shows you how to use the same motions of your body against both the right and left sides of your attacker to produce different, yet highly effective locks. Many of these simple mechanics also reveal the “hidden” applications of classical martial arts technique. Junkyard Aikido sets a new standard in martial arts instructional methodology and is available exclusively from Stay Safe Media.
In addition to being the founder and lead instructor of Martial Blade Concepts, Michael Janich is also co-host of the Outdoor Channel’s award-winning series The Best Defense and its companion series The Best Defense: Survival! In these series, Janich, his co-host Rob Pincus, and host Michael Bane present hard-hitting instruction in all aspects of personal defense, family security, and disaster preparedness. Now in their third season on the Outdoor Channel, these hit series are also available on multi-DVD sets for viewing anytime, anywhere. The Season 2 DVD sets of both series can be purchased from Stay Safe Media.

In the magazine's two-part cover story entitled Bleeding Edge, Michael Janich explains his Martial Blade Concepts system of edged-weapon self-defense. The articles, which appeared in the September and October 2009 issues, detail the history and evolution of Janich's system and MBC’s commitment to applying knife skills responsibly to provide solutions to a broad range of defensive situations. They also emphasize MBC’s focus on decisively stopping your attacker through proper targeting and provide insight into Janich’s acclaimed Counter-Blade Concepts (CBC) system of empty-hand defenses against edged weapons. Both articles include detailed technique pictorials featuring Mike and his long-time student and training partner Matt Zavakos.
