An
Edged-Weapon Self-Defense System Developed by Michael D. Janich

In the magazine's two-part cover story entitled Bleeding Edge, Michael Janich explains his Martial Blade Concepts system of edged-weapon self-defense. The article, which details the history and evolution of Janich's system, explains that MBC is not about "knife dueling" but about "learning to fight effectively with a knife" so you can apply your skills to the broadest possible set of defensive situations. It also emphasizes that, unlike many classical knife systems, MBC focuses on fighting with the knife that you actually have when you're attacked and the importance of decisively stopping your attacker through proper targeting. These concepts are demonstrated with detailed technique pictorials featuring Mike and his long-time student and training partner Matt Zavakos.
Part 2 of Bleeding Edge will appear in the October 2009 issue of Black Belt Magazine and will focus on Janichís acclaimed Counter-Blade Concepts system.
Michael Janich and Stay Safe Media are proud to announce the release of Practical Unarmed Combatives Volumes 1 and 2 : Critical Skills of Damithurt Silat. The product of more than 30 years of research and analysis of the world’s best fighting arts, Janich’s devastating system of empty-hand self-defense focuses on understanding and exploiting the “physiological potential” of simple, instinctive, gross motor skills. In this way, even novice students can quickly learn a few basic tactics and have the ability, confidence, and understanding to successfully defend against a broad range of common street attacks.
Although Janich has shared selected elements of his system on the hit TV show The Best Defense, the full scope of this incredible program has previously only been taught to a few, select private students. Now, Practical Unarmed Combatives Volumes 1 and 2 makes this revolutionary system available to every student of self-defense. Featuring detailed, step-by-step instruction and breathtaking production quality, these videos set a new standard in personal defense instruction.

The Best Defense is something new under the sun, a series that focuses on all aspects of personal defense from basic awareness to surviving violent encounters. The show features Michael Bane, author of the landmark TRAIL SAFE personal defense book, as host, with top trainers Michael Janich of Martial Blade Concepts fame and Rob Pincus, creator of Combat Focus Shooting, as regular co-hosts. Each show begins with a cinematically filmed scenario — a carjacking attempt, a home invasion, danger at an ATM — then takes the viewer step-by-step into dissecting that situation to clearly show better and safer ways of resolving the situation.
